How this Mandarin name generator works

This mandarin name generator uses your English given name, gender preference and desired quality to select three suggestions from a fixed, curated table of commonly used Mandarin given names.

Each result shows simplified characters, Pinyin with tone marks and a literal English meaning. The family name comes first in Chinese, so a result such as 王明 is written surname first, followed by the given name.

These are suggestions, not authentic or official names. A native speaker who knows you will always beat a generator; discuss a favorite with a Mandarin teacher or friend.

Mandarin name generator FAQ

Are these authentic Chinese names?

They are curated suggestions based on commonly used given names, not an official or guaranteed authentic name for you. Ask a native speaker who knows you for guidance.

Why does the surname come first?

Chinese names conventionally put the family name first and the given name after it. The tool shows that ordering in each suggestion.

Does the English name get transliterated?

No. The tool selects from a fixed table rather than attempting phonetic transliteration of an arbitrary English name.

Are the same results repeatable?

Yes. The selection is deterministic: the same English name and options produce the same three suggestions in your browser.

Who should I ask before using one?

Share the suggestion with a Mandarin teacher, native-speaking friend or another person who understands your context. Their judgment is more useful than a generator alone.
