How the Chinese zodiac calculator works
The Chinese zodiac calculator uses the birth year and the Chinese New Year boundary. Because no year-by-year boundary table is supplied here, dates before February 21 show both possible readings when the convention is unknown.
It maps the adjusted zodiac year through the repeating 12-animal cycle and maps the year ending through the five-element cycle. Chinese zodiac meanings are traditional and folkloric, not prediction or advice.

Why does my January or February result show two possibilities?
Chinese New Year varies between January 21 and February 20. Since this tool does not have a year-by-year boundary table, it shows both adjacent zodiac years when you do not know the convention.
What does the convention selector mean?
Choose before or after Chinese New Year for your birth year. If you are unsure, leave it at I do not know to see both possible readings.
How are the animals mapped?
